GARDEN
38 KACEY AVE, FAIRVIEW ESTATE, TE AWAMUTU
Colleen's garden is 10 years old and in her words is in Colleen's style. It is easy care with grasses, repetitive plantings of gardenias, azaleas and leucodendrons giving it a feeling of continuity. Roses, potted colour, garden art and the infamous red door give the garden colour and interest. Benches made by Colleen's late husband Bruce have pride of place in the garden. What is behind the red door? Come and have a look.

2. Alan & Evelin Bate
HOUSE
This architectural, contemporary property was proudly designed by owners, Alan and Evelin and built by Alan himself.
The towering double gables immediately give the residence a sense of grandeur. The contrast between the Nu-Wall and Linea Oblique claddings further elevates the home from its surroundings with its sleek aesthetics. One of the areas that make this house so unique is the feature concrete wall. The building boasts a private courtyard which is accessible from both wings of the property.
Hidden within the house is a large upstairs mezzanine living area. The interior design of the home embraces elegant minimalism throughout, highlighting greys, shades of white and earthy colours. The custom-designed kitchen, with a sleek mirrored splash-back, stone bench-tops, and modern streamlined appliances, places the emphasis on function and simplicity. The kitchen and the dining area seamlessly flow together with the family room as one large open-plan space. The kitchen features a butler’s pantry which also doubles as laundry.
The garden and surrounds are low-maintenance.
3. Monu & Sandra Cherian
LIVING AREA & GARDEN
Built in 2019 this 200 sqm home was planned and built by Stewart Rose Builders with modifications by the owners.
This delightful home is full of colour and interesting art like the golden bicycle acting as a support for pot plants. The extensive outdoor area is cleverly thought out with the portico covered deck to the pizza oven, outdoor fire, seating area around a fire pit and outdoor bar. Also home to a pergola with alternatively a child’s swing or hammock as the mood strikes.
Beautiful views over farmland and towards Maungatautari. Mass plantings are a mixture of lavenders, grasses, camellia, hebes and olive trees. Garden art is scattered throughout the garden.
Parking in the street.
4. Nigel & Kerry Gaskin
GARDEN & SHOP
We purchased the old farmhouse sitting under majestic 100 year old oak trees in a bare paddock five years ago, and the garden has evolved with no rhyme or reason, centred around the orchard and hen house.
‘Old fashioned’ plants and picking flowers are dominant, dahlia, lily, alstroemeria, gerbera as well as an abundance of fruit trees. With the addition of our home shop ‘Recycled NRG WoodCrafts’ which sells a variety of handcrafted wooden items made by Nigel, plus basketry and recycled garden décor our property keeps us busy in our supposedly semi-retirement.

HOUSE & GARDEN
This modern 300 sqm (325 including the portico) family house was built in 2022 by W & T Developments. Designed by Jason Kraayvanger of New Vision Architecture it has beautiful views over the countryside to Maungatautari.
The interior is in monocolours and is built for easy maintenance of both house and garden. The mirror glass splash back adds a touch of elegance to the open plan kitchen and dining room.
The house is built into the side of the hill and has a large bank behind it lined with grasses and gazanias all giving the effect of being in motion when the wind blows. The Totalspan, high gabled shed is made of steel while the cladding is black and white stria by Harditex.

6. Sam & Patricia Win
GARDEN & STUDIO
In just over 16 months Patricia and Sam have turned a garden full of hedges into delightful, gently terraced perennial and shrub borders with a stream flowing through the rockery into the water feature which is the main focal point. The stone work all done by Sam and the design by Patricia ending up with an all year round colourful garden including the rose and iris bed.
The newly built shade house is home to tuberous begonias, ferns, fuschia and many annuals. Raised vegetable beds, a large orchard and a caged area for strawberries, grapes and pears etc complete the edible garden. This is a must see garden.

This town garden has had a major overhaul in the last couple of years, featuring separate areas, a shade garden between buildings, a raised vege garden, a natives planting and a large deck for entertaining. Designed for low maintenance, there are no lawns out back with paving and pathing throughout extensive plantings.
Out back two custom buildings for Leanne's collection of toys feature - over 10,000 toys are displayed and the toy rooms are open for viewing.

GARDEN
CLOVERLEA, 806 PATERANGI ROAD, RD3, OHAUPO
This well established Mediterranean style garden is designed to be easy care. The mostly deciduous mature trees are underplanted with violas, clivia, roses and penstemon.
Beautiful views are at every aspect of the garden over the surrounding countryside. Mass plantings, a swimming pool surrounded by an easy care rockery and a native area are just some of the areas that make up this garden.
Other highlights include lavenders and limelight and pee wee hydrangas. The garden is a work in progress and at the moment the Azalea area is undergoing development.

9. Michael Brewerton
HOUSE & GARDEN
The house was conceived by Architect Michael Brewerton as a Georgian colonial New Zealand house with a touch of Queenslander/French colonial.
When looking for a house I went looking for "character". There was not a lot on the market that fell into the "character" category in the Waikato and being an architect I thought "well I'll have to create it myself". The house started in 2020 and was finished the following year.
Features include deep verandahs, tall ceilings, farmhouse kitchen, heritage themed bathrooms, Georgian and bungalow interior doors, double hung sash windows and shutters (to control sun).
There are many windows and doors from earlier buildings, further lending an "aged" appearance to the house. The newel post at the bottom of the staircase is from His Majesty's theatre in Auckland, the main window at the end of the living room is from a an old villa in Pirongia, kitchen door onto verandah is from France, the Kauri floor in the kitchen and hallway is from the demolished hotel in Paeroa.
The garden was designed to suit the house, there will be a few more years for it to come into its own. The kitchen garden with lime paths is on the north side of the house. The drive has been lined with crows nest poplars to provide an "avenue" and emphasise the length of the driveway. There is an orchard to the left as you come through the last set of gates. Below the house is a small paddock with three "lawnmowers" beyond this. The views are extensive over the farmland towards the north.
Parking on side of driveway.

GARDEN
61 ALLCOCK ROAD, RD5, HAMILTON
This 23 year old garden covers one hectare and has extensive views towards Mt. Pirongia.
Planted to attract birds and bees there is a mix of exotics and natives. There are mass plantings of many grasses, hydrangas, azaleas, agapanthus and many more. Camellias, blossom trees, day lillies, ginkos and kowhai provide seasonal colour. There is a walkway covered by a non fruiting grapevine, garden art and hedging to complete the garden. There is plenty of food for the resident tuis, quail, pheasants, morepork and kereru.
A new orchard has been recently been established as part of the generalised garden makeover. A sheltered vegetable garden sits on the site of the old swimming pool.
Parking on one side of roadside and turning easier in the driveway entrance.
11. Patrick & Alison Todd
HOUSE, GARDEN & MORNING TEA
154 TE PAHU ROAD, RD5, HAMILTON
This 310 sqm Landmark home was built in 2009 on nearly two acres of paddock. Designed to be a modern South African farmhouse with indoor outdoor flow it has lovely views of the Waipa river, Mt Pirongia and over surrounding farmland.
The garden has been designed to protect the house from the westerly wind by means of trees, hedges and built up mounds. Mostly native trees and shrubs have been planted to attract birds and bees of which tui, keruru, kingfishers, pheasants, quail are frequently seen and the odd kaka occasionally. A large raised bed vegetable garden, orchard and cut flower beds are sheltered by the mounds.
The gully with its stream was overgrown with weeds. The removal of 80 pine trees allowed the gully to regenerate and is being lovingly restored to its original state – a kahikatea forest remnant including a 200-300 year old rimu. Many boardwalks, seating areas and paths criss cross the gully. A great place to entertain or to simply nature bathe (shinrinyoku). A highlight for the grandkids is feeding the eels.
Come and enjoy morning tea and take one of the many paths to enjoy the river and gully views.
Care is needed when using steep steps and slippery paths.
Parking on farm on left side road opposite gateway.
